Rhema FM has provided 100% Christian content radio to the Hunter region since 1985 and is now available internationally through online streaming of the broadcast.
Australian Christian radio station Rhema FM has a vision to lift up the name of Jesus Christ and communicate the reality of a personal relationship with Him to the people of Newcastle and the Hunter through 100% all Christian broadcasting in partnership with the ‘Body of Christ’ for the glory of God. Rhema FM broadcasts on the 99.7 FM band to the Newcastle region and 94.9 FM to Gosford. The station defines itself as a home mission with a mission to reach every home. History of Rhema FMRhema FM first aired in Newcastle in September 1985 and is part of the Rhema Broadcasting Group established in New Zealand in 1961. A permanent licence was awarded in 1999, after 14 years of temporary broadcasts. Broadcasts reach listeners from the Central Coast in the south, Buladelah in the north and the Singleton in the west. In 2007, facilities were upgraded to provide online streaming of the radio broadcast, enabling Rhema FM to reach a worldwide audience, extending the opportunities to enrich, encourage and impact lives for Christ. Christian Music and ProgrammingRhema FM has 100% Christian content in both music and information programming. At any given time, there is a play list of approximately 2000 songs by Australian and international Christian artists. Pre-recorded programs such as Family Life Today and Focus on the Family are broadcast regularly as are messages from motivational Christian teachers and speakers such as Charles Swindoll, Joyce Meyer and Derek Prince. Sunday evenings feature the One80 degrees program highlighting some of the latest Christian music releases and CD reviews. A weekly update from Wes Jay from The Rock Across Australia provides information on Christian music news including upcoming Christian artist tours in Australia. The broadcasts also feature interviews with local and visiting Christian speakers, singers and bands. RhemathonRhema FM is a non-denominational, non-profit registered Christian charitable organisation and receives no government funding. God’s provision through listener support in past years has been amazing and the Rhema FM team continue to rely upon the Rhemathon as the major source of funding each year. This three-day fundraising event provides an opportunity for listeners and supporters to make a tax-deductible donation to support the ongoing ministry of the station. Donations can be made online or by phone. Contact details are available online. Rhemathon 2008 will run from Friday 4th – Sunday 6th April 2008. Supporting Rhema FM In addition to supporting the Rhemathon fundraiser or making general donations, listeners can become Rhema members for an annual subscription of A$60. Members receive The Word for Today daily devotional, a quarterly newsletter, car stickers and entitlement to vote at the Annual General Meeting. Extra-Mile partners pledge to donate $31 per month to assist the station with ongoing running costs and daily expenses. This donation is tax-deductible and can be cancelled at any time. These additional funds ensure that Rhema FM will be able to continue providing Christian music and programming to the community. Prayer support is pivotal for the ongoing success of Rhema FM. At 11pm each evening, the broadcasters pray for the needs of the local area and invite listeners to join them. The station is always grateful for the supportive prayers of their listeners and for encouraging feedback on how God has used the broadcast to connect people with God. Motivated by a desire to see God’s Word and the message of Christianity change hearts and lives, the staff, volunteers and supports of Rhema FM have established a radio station with integrity and a real desire to encourage and support the local community.
